welcome to Year 3

Welcome to Year 3's class page!

PLEASE FIND OUR HOME LEARNING ACTIVITIES FOR YEAR 3 HERE

Year 3 is taught by Miss McGowan; we are also supported in class by Mrs Hoyle and Miss Robinson. Ms Eatherley will teach the class on Wednesday afternoons.

In Maths this half term we will be continuing to use Times Tables Rockstars to practise our fluent recall of the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. We will also be learning about statistics (using bar charts, pictograms and tables), measurement of length using mm, cm and m, and finally beginning to work on fractions. We will also continue to practise mental maths skills with weekly Big Maths activities.

In English we will be focusing on a whole school text for the first two weeks, using the book Squiglet Pig to write our own adventure narrative stories. We will then look at writing persuasively, as well as chronological reports.

Our topic this half term is the Romans and Anglo-Saxons, and we will be linking our art with this using clay and mosaics. In Science we will focus on working scientifically; planning, carrying out and writing up experiments.

Our P.E. days will remain Monday and Friday - please ensure your children have a full P.E. kit in school with clothes suitable for both indoor and outdoor activities. Thank you.

As always, please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

Reading

We are often asked whether there are any books which we can recommend for pupils. The website: https://schoolreadinglist.co.uk/ shows lots of good choices for individual year groups.

Spellings

Please find the Year 3 and 4 spelling lists.  These will not be the spellings which are necessarily on the tests each week as these link to particular spelling patterns.  The spellings below are words which children should be using correctly in their written work.
