Year 6

Welcome to Year 6.  Year 6's class teacher is Mrs Kinsella. Friday lessons will be taught by Miss Robinson and Mr Hanlon.

Welcome back to Autumn 2! This year seems to be flying by already. Year 6 have had an extremely positive start to their school year and all staff around school have been very complimentary of their attitude and hard-work.

This half-term, Year 6 will continue to be taught Italian on a Friday and P.E. on a Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. As the weather turns very icy and cold, please ensure your child has appropriate footwear and clothing for outdoor P.E. or they will not be able to take part.

Our Topics this term are The British Isles through Geography and 'Light and Dark' through our science.  Watch this space for some creative DT work!

The children have been fascinated by our current book 'The Loathly Lady', finding out all about what it is that women really desire! They are currently writing some fantastic poetry that they will perform for each other as performance poetry. Following on from this we will begin to look at all things Christmas by studying 'The Snowman' along with Year 3, 4 and 5.

Our Maths focus this half-term will continue to follow our whole school scheme 'White Rose'. The children are working hard to secure their arithmetic skills and speed. We are also focusing on key reasoning skills, necessary for end of year assessment within Year 6. Our aim within Year 6 (and whole school) is to ensure all children are offered the richest curriculum that allows them to reach their individual potential so that they are ready and keen for their transition to high school.

Homework will be set on a Monday and should be handed in the following Monday.  There will also be a spelling test each Monday.  Children will be given spellings and a piece of Maths work for homework that links with that week's focus. Please do ask if you are unsure of any of these tasks.  We would also encourage your child to read each evening.

If any parents have free time to come into school and listen to KS2 readers, this would be greatly appreciated as the children love reading out-loud. Please contact the office or speak to me direct if you think you can help.

Well done to all those children who have attended boosters already and are keen to work towards their SATs. Boosters take place on a Monday evening and a Thursday morning. If you would like more information about this, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you to all parents for your ongoing support. I look forward to the Christmas term ahead and spending quality time with your children.

Mrs Kinsella.
